EU PVSEC 2026 Plenary “Sneak” Preview - Monday

Welcome to our preview of the EU PVSEC plenary talks, which traditionally are a brand feature of our conference as THE occasion not to be missed. Here all attendees meet and listen to a subject of interest to all, complementing their specialised expertise. We reserve our best auditoriums to provide you enough comfort, and do not schedule other parallel sessions in the scientific program. But most of all, the selected themes, discoveries and developments represent the overall picture of the lively PV ecosystem, with an update every year.

The Scientific Committee scheduled the plenaries around the following 4 major themes of the conference:
  • PV in the Energy System (Monday 8:30)
  • Thin-Film PV Technologies Towards Impact (Wednesday 08:30)
  • Silicon PV Design, Manufacturing and Circularity (Wednesday 10:30)
  • Reliable PV Everywhere (Friday 10:30)
Here we start our “Sneak Preview” with the Plenary session on Monday, 14th September, which opens the conference week. We would like to see everyone at this early time of the day, as the presentations are “Setting the Scene” of this conference. To save you time at the registration desk, we do not require you to wear the badge on Monday morning.

So what is the role of Photovoltaics in the Energy System? Or should we already say “The PV Energy System”, given the dramatic increase of PV as the one of the cheapest energy sources.

There's still time to exhibit - Showcase your technologies and services!

The EU PVSEC 2026 Exhibition provides a unique opportunity for companies, research institutions, and industry organisations to present their latest photovoltaic technologies, services, and innovations. Bringing together leading stakeholders from across the solar sector, the exhibition serves as a hub for networking, knowledge exchange, and business development.

Take a look at the exhibition floor plan, which provides an overview of the current booth allocation, and explore the list of exhibitors to see the companies and organisations that have already secured their stand. With only a limited number of booths still available, now is the perfect time to secure your place to showcase your expertise and become part of this internationally renowned event.

Whether your goal is to strengthen brand visibility, connect with potential partners, or stay at the forefront of industry trends, exhibiting at EU PVSEC places your organisation at the centre of the global PV community.

Webinar recordings now available: a preview of key discussions at EU PVSEC 2026

In June, two free expert webinars brought together leading voices from the renewable energy sector to discuss some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities on the path towards a sustainable energy future. If you missed the live sessions, both recordings are now available on demand.

"From Grid Congestion to Grid Resilience: The Role of Flexibility Enablers", organised by WIP Renewable Energies and Energy Storage Europe, explored how energy storage, together with demand response, smart control systems, and digital energy management can help address increasing grid congestion while enabling further growth of photovoltaic deployment. Experts from research institutions and industry shared their perspectives on how flexibility solutions can strengthen grid resilience and support the integration of renewable energy at scale.

"The Masterplan for 100% Renewable Energy" examined the implications of a fully renewable energy system and highlighted the technologies, infrastructure, and innovations required to make this vision a reality. The session featured insights from Dr. Radovan Kopecek and Prof. Dr. Peter Fath, who discussed pathways towards a future powered entirely by renewable energy sources.

Both webinars served as a preview: Watch the recordings and discover the ideas, technologies, and solutions that will drive the conversations at EU PVSEC 2026.

"Space Photovoltaics from Lab to Launch"

Prof. Louise Hirst, University of Cambridge | Dr. Claus Zimmermann, Airbus DS

As the global space sector undergoes a radical transformation, the demand for innovative, high-performance power solutions has never been more critical. This lecture class considers the evolution of space photovoltaic systems and how emerging applications are driving innovation.

This lecture class covers:
  • Unique features of the space environment requiring custom PV solutions: AM0 spectrum, plasma and atomic oxygen, thermal cycling and particle radiation.
  • Radiation induced degradation: Damage mechanisms, simulation methods and correlation with ground-based testing, along with the role of shielding.
  • Key design features of current space photovoltaic solutions, powering payloads delivering critical space-based services today and their qualification standards.
  • Emerging applications and evolving design criteria. Next generation satellite networks; high power space infrastructure; space exploration and science in space placing new demands on the PV power systems including: lower cost, high specific power, on-orbit assembly compatibility and extended duration survival in hostile space environments.
  • Novel space PV concepts: potential advantages and challenges.
This lecture class would be useful for researchers from all career stages looking to understand specific challenges associated with photovoltaics in space environments, tool kits and methodologies for modelling these effects and correlating with prospective mission profiles, current state-of-the-art space power solutions and how they are qualified, and how the demands of emerging applications are driving innovation in this field. The course has been developed as an academic/industrial collaboration and would suit attendees interested in the challenges of translating novel device designs and alternative material platforms to scalable space photovoltaics technology solutions.
